Founded in 1917 with its name called China Forest Association, Chinese Society of Forestry (CSF) whose members comprise forestry professionals is the leading forestry NGO in China. By now, CSF has a history of 87 years. It's one of the oldest academic societies in China. In 1928, its name was changed to Chinese Forestry Association and in 1951 to the present name-Chinese Society of Forestry (CSF). It's an academic, science popularizing and non-profit organization.
Organization
The supreme power organ of CSF is the CSF National Congress. When the National Congress closes, the CSF Board of Directors is the leading organ. When the Board of Directors adjourns, the Board of Managing Directors of CSF exercise the functions and powers of the Board of Directors. the Secretariat of CSF undertake the daily job. The current president of CSF is Prof. Jiang Zehui, the president and chief scientist of Chinese Academy of Forestry (CAF). The secretary-general is Guan Songlin, the director of the personnel and education department of State Forestry Administration. The deputy secretary-general is Li Yanquan, who is responsible for the routine jobs of CSF.
With 87225 membership and 636 senior members, who are from the departments of research, teaching, industry and administration, CSF is the biggest, most important forestry NGO in China. CSF has 30 technical committees (sub-societies) and 31 provincial societies (sections). 185 leading forestry professionals constitute the Board of Directors. CSF has 9 working committees. They are academic committee, science popularizing committee, organization committee, awarding committee, consulting committee, international committee, continuing education committee, the editorial board of Forest and Man, and the editorial board of SCIENTIA SILVAE SINICAE.
Mission
To organize the foresters to promote the forestry development and professional exchanges, popularize the forestry science and technology, promote the growth of forestry personnel, improve the public awareness of environment and involvement in China's forestry development.
Task
To organize domestic and international academic exchanges, promote the subject advancement;
To popularize forestry science and technology, foster public awareness of forestry issues of China and other countries;
To strengthen international cooperation and exchanges;
To discover and recommend qualified forestry professionals, award prizes to excellent forestry professionals;
To advance continuing education for professionals;
To Publish the periodicals of scientia silvae sinicae, forest and human and the newsletter of CSF
Secretariat
The secretariat of CSF has a staff of 30 persons. There are 6 departments in CSF's secretariat, which are administration department, academic department, popular science dept., international dept., consultation dept. and the editorial dept. Of Scientia Silvae Sinicae.
