(1) The 19th National Symposium on Forest Cultivation

On September 7-10, 2019, the 19th National Symposium on Forest Cultivation and the Peak Forum on Efficient Cultivation of Man-made Forest was held in Fuzhou, Fujian. More than 300 experts and scholars from 60 institutions including forestry universities, scientific research institutes and enterprises attended the Symposium.

The Symposium provides good opportunities for forest cultivation colleagues from all over the country to learn from each other’s advanced concepts and deeply exchange innovative ideas. It will effectively promote the forest cultivation peers to make communication and cooperation, express their own opinions and carry out cross-district cooperation, and further improve the research level of forest cultivation in China.

(2) The 18th National Symposium on Forest Cultivation

On November 4-7, 2018, the 18th National Symposium on Forest Cultivation and the Peak Forum on Precise Quality Improvement of Man-made Forest was held in Guiyang. The theme was “Forest Cultivation in the New Era”. The topics included the tasks of forest cultivation in the “new era” and its role in promoting the realization of the “Two Mountains Theory”, the cultivation of artificial forests, the cultivation of natural forests, tree seedlings and the precise quality improvement of man-made forest in the new era.

Shen Guofang and Zhang Shougong, Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Zhao Liangping, Director General of the Ecological Protection and Restoration Department of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, Chen Xingliang, Vice President and Secretary General of Chinese Society of Forestry , and more than 310 representatives from 61 institutions across the country attended the Symposium.

At the opening ceremony, Academician Shen Guofang awarded certificates and prizes to 12 young teachers and postgraduates who won the “Shen Guofang Award Fund for Forest Cultivation”

Academician Shen Guofang and Academician Zhang Shougong respectively delivered the lectures themed Man-made Forest in China- Shouldering the Dual Mission of Ecology and Production and Three Thoughts on the Development of Forest Cultivation Discipline.

At the Symposium, 23 excellent academic reports were made, including macro reports on the seriousness and flexibility of forest cultivation rules and the development trend of forest fertilization etc., as well as the latest progress in the cultivation of Pinus massoniana, Pinus thunbergii, Populus tomentosa, Phyllostachys pubescens, Camellia oleifera, Catalpa bungei, Cyclocarya paliurus and Parashorea cathayensis, and the theoretical and technical breakthrough in forest fertilization and irrigation, soil microorganism, root system architecture, flowering and fruiting, genetic diversity and Bayesian growth model.

(3) The 17th National Symposium on Forest Cultivation

On May 7-8, 2017, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Chinese Society of Forestry, the Forest Cultivation Branch of the Chinese Society of Forestry successfully held the 17th National Symposium on Forest Cultivation. 8 experts and scholars were invited to deliver the invited lectures around the theme of “one hundred years of forest cultivation” and focusing on the new situation of forest cultivation. Wang Zhuxiong, Director General of Afforestation Department of State Forestry Administration, Sheng Weitong, Researcher of Forestry Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Forestry, and Ma Lvyi, Professor of Beijing Forestry University deeply analyzed the new tasks under the new situation. Academician Shen Guofang attended the Symposium and made important comments, which pointed out the direction for the development of forest cultivation.

More than 200 representatives of leaders, experts, scientific and technological personnel and entrepreneurs from nearly 70 forestry colleges and universities, scientific research institutes and related enterprises engaged in forest cultivation research, teaching, management and production practice were attracted. A total of 124 high-quality papers were received and edited into proceedings, forming the “Proceedings of the 17th National Symposium on Forest Cultivation, covering all aspects of forest cultivation, such as seedlings, afforestation, forest management, etc.

(4) The 16th National Symposium on Forest Cultivation

On November 16-18, 2016, the Forest Cultivation Branch of Chinese Society of Forestry held the 6th Member Representative Conference of the Forest Cultivation Branch and the 16th National Symposium on Forest Cultivation in Anhui Agricultural University. Shen Guofang, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chen Xingliang, Vice President and Secretary General of Chinese Society of Forestry , Zhang Shougong, President of Chinese Academy of Forestry, Cheng Beijiu, President of Anhui Agricultural University, and more than 300 representatives from 55 institutions in China attended the Symposium.

Academician Shen Guofang was specially invited to attend the Symposium and deliver the lecture themed “My Green Life: Reviewing of 60 Years of Forest Cultivation Teaching Career” to share his achievements in education, scientific research and academic management. Zhang Jianguo, Director of the Forestry Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Forestry, made the report to introduce the formation mode of Populus tremula from the global scale, Professor Tan Xiaofeng of Central South University of Forestry and Technology and Professor Xu Xiaoniu of Anhui Agricultural University exchanged views with the representatives on the development of Camellia oleifera industry and the optimization of cultivated varieties, and the precision cultivation technology in the cultivation of Chinese fir timber forest etc.

At the Symposium, 4 invited lectures, 5 plenary lectures and 27 academic lectures were delivered around the theme of “Precise Improvement of Forest Quality”, and the heated discussion was made on the concept, connotation and technical system of precise improvement of forest quality, and the theory and technology of precise quality improvement of man-made forest, natural forest and tree seedlings, etc. 102 papers were received, covering all aspects of forest cultivation such as precise quality improvement of seedling, afforestation and management . In addition, the Hefei’s Suggestions on Improving Forest Quality were put forward to provide suggestions to the national forestry authorities and call on the society to pay attention to the precise improvement of forest quality.

(5) The 15th National Symposium on Forest Cultivation

On December 5-6, 2015, the 15th National Symposium on Forest Cultivation was held in Guangzhou. Nearly 300 representatives of leaders, experts, scientific and technological personnel and entrepreneurs from nearly 40 forestry colleges and universities, scientific research institutes and related enterprises engaged in forest cultivation research, teaching, management and production practice attended the Symposium.

At the Symposium, the discussion was made around the theme of “Forest Cultivation and Timber Resource Security” and focusing on the theory and practice of improving the productivity of timber forest, the construction practice of strategic timber reserve base, the cultivation theory and practice of main rapid-growing and high-yield forests and precious timber trees, and the theory and practice of multi-functional forest cultivation, etc.
